The quiet part of the morning
I have been walking before sunrise again. Nothing much happens on those walks, which I suspect is the point; by the time I sit down with coffee the day already feels settled.
Reading two books badly at once
One on paper at home, one on the phone for the commute. The trouble is that I keep forgetting which of the two a sentence came from, so my notes have quietly merged into a third, worse book.
A very small tool for renaming photos
Forty lines, no dependencies, and it has already earned back the afternoon I spent on it. Sorting by the date buried in the file name is the only thing that matters, and I rewrite it every autumn anyway.
Bread, take eleven
The starter had been sulking at the back of the fridge for a fortnight and came out hungry. Take eleven is the first loaf that held its shape without me standing over the basket watching it.
Notes from a slow train
Six hours north with a paperback and a window seat. I filled three pages of marginalia on the first chapter and none on the rest, which is probably a fair review of both the book and me.
